How the result is worked out

How the schema is built

The tool writes schema.org LocalBusiness markup in JSON-LD, the format Google recommends. It uses the business type you choose, such as Plumber or Restaurant, and only includes the details you fill in. Days with the same hours are grouped together, and days you leave blank are treated as closed.

Paste the whole block, including the <script> tags, into the <head> of your home page or contact page. On WordPress, many SEO plugins have a box for this, or your web designer can add it. Then test it with Google’s Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.

Schema is one small part of local search. Start with the local SEO checklist generator and our local SEO checklist for Shropshire and Powys businesses.

Common questions

Questions about this tool

What is local business schema?

It’s a short block of code that labels your business details, such as name, address, phone and opening hours, so search engines can read them reliably. Visitors don’t see it.

Where do I put the code?

In the head section of your home page or contact page, usually just once on the site. On WordPress, an SEO plugin or a header code plugin can add it. If we manage your website, just email it to us as one of your monthly changes.

Which business type should I choose?

Pick the most specific type that fits. A plumber should choose Plumber rather than LocalBusiness. If nothing fits, LocalBusiness or ProfessionalService is fine.

I work from home and don't show my address. What should I do?

Leave the street address blank and fill in your town and areas served. Don’t add an address you don’t want customers to visit, and keep it consistent with your Google Business Profile.

Will schema get me higher in Google?

Not on its own. It helps Google understand your details, but good pages, a complete Google Business Profile and genuine reviews matter much more for local searches.

How do I check the code works?

Once it’s on your site, put the page address into Google’s Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator at validator.schema.org. They show any errors or missing details.
