How the review link is built
Google gives every business listing a Place ID, a code that usually starts with ChIJ. To find yours, open Google’s Place ID Finder, type your business name into the map’s search box and pick your listing. The Place ID appears in the box on the map. Copy it and paste it here.
The tool adds your Place ID to Google’s standard review address: https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid= followed by your ID. It checks the ID looks right (letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, no spaces) but it can’t check it with Google, so always test the link yourself before you send it to anyone.

Questions about this tool
What is a Google Place ID?
It’s a code Google uses to identify one business listing on Google Maps. Most start with ChIJ and are around 27 characters long. You can look yours up for free with Google’s Place ID Finder.
Do I need a Google Business Profile for this to work?
Yes. The link opens the review box on your business listing, so you need a listing on Google Maps. If you haven’t claimed your Google Business Profile yet, do that first so you can reply to reviews.
Can I offer a discount for a review?
No. Google’s policies don’t allow incentives for reviews, and that includes discounts, free gifts and prize draws. Just ask, explain it helps a small business, and make it easy with the link.
When is the best time to ask for a review?
Soon after the job is finished or the customer has had their order, while it’s fresh. A plumber in Shrewsbury might send the text the same afternoon. A café in Ludlow might put the link on a card by the till.
Can I reply to reviews?
Yes, from your Google Business Profile. Reply to good and bad reviews politely and briefly. A calm, helpful reply to a poor review often reassures the next customer more than the review itself worries them.
Is the link still working if my business moves?
Usually, because the Place ID stays with your listing. Google does occasionally change Place IDs, so it’s worth testing your link every few months, especially after editing your listing.
