A small British team, doing one thing properly

We got tired of watching small businesses get badly served.

Every one of us has been on the wrong end of a web project: the quote that tripled, the site handed over as a folder of files, the developer who stopped replying. WebHostGB is what we wished existed when we needed it.

The Ashcombe example website

One service, done well

We don't do apps, shops, branding, ads or SEO retainers. We make five excellent pages for small businesses and then look after them. That narrowness is deliberate — it's the only reason we can do it this well at this price.

UK only

British businesses, British customers, British English.

Same-day changes

The normal case, not the exception.

Why this exists

The web industry has a small business problem.

Agencies are built around projects that justify the overhead.

The gap

Too small for an agency. Too busy for a builder.

If you're a five-person firm, no agency really wants your £2,000 project — their overheads are built for £30,000 ones. You get whoever's junior, or you get quoted a number designed to make you go away.

So you try a website builder instead. And a builder can genuinely make something decent — if you have forty spare hours, a feel for layout, and the patience to write your own copy. Most people running a business have none of those three, and shouldn't need them.

A focused service, without forcing every business into the same page structure.

Our answer

Do one thing, for one type of client, at one price.

We make focused brochure websites for UK small businesses. Each site gets the pages its business and customers actually need, rather than an arbitrary target. That focus is what makes the rest possible: we've done it enough times to be quick, we know what a plumber's site needs that a solicitor's doesn't, and we don't carry the cost of departments you'd never use.

The monthly price does the rest. We carry the design cost up front and earn it back over time, which means we're only paid well if you stay — and you only stay if the site keeps being worth it.

How we work

The rules we actually hold to.

Not values on a wall. These are the specific decisions we've made, including the ones that cost us money.

We tell you when we're wrong for you

If you need a shop, a booking system or a members' area, we say so and point you at someone who does that. We turn away work most weeks. A client who signs up for something we can't deliver is worse for us than no client at all.

Your domain is yours, always

Registered in your name and transferred free on request, with no notice period. Holding a domain hostage is the oldest trick in this industry and we won't do it.

No dark patterns

Cancelling takes two clicks from your billing page. No retention scripts, no phone call required.

One price, honestly

No tiers designed to make the middle one look sensible. No upsells six months in.

A person writes every word

Your copy is written for your business by someone who read your answers. It isn't spun, it isn't assembled from a library of paragraphs, and it doesn't contain the phrase 'in today's digital landscape'.

Boring technology on purpose

Static pages, no database, no plugins. Nothing to patch, nothing to be breached, nothing that gets slower over three years. Unfashionable and correct.

Our standards

What every site has to clear before it ships.

A checklist a real person goes through, on every site, before it's allowed to go live.

It has to load fast on a bad connection

Tested on a throttled mobile connection, not a fibre line in an office. If the first meaningful paint is slow on 4G in a rural village, it isn't finished, because that's where a lot of your customers are.

It has to read like a person wrote it

Every page gets read aloud during review. If a sentence sounds like nobody would ever say it, it gets rewritten. This catches more bad copy than any other single check we do.

It has to work on a phone first

Checked on a small screen before a large one. Tap targets big enough for a thumb, the phone number tappable, the address opening a map, no horizontal scroll anywhere.

It has to be usable by everyone

Real contrast ratios, proper heading structure, alt text on meaningful images, visible focus outlines, and it has to work by keyboard. Not because a regulator is watching, but because some of your customers use a screen reader.

It has to make the next step obvious

On every page, on a phone, without scrolling: what this business does, and how to contact them. If a stranger can't answer both in five seconds, the design has failed regardless of how it looks.

Where we're not the answer

The honest limits of what we do.

We would rather lose the sale than have you find this out in month three.

You need e-commerce

Selling products online means stock, payments, shipping, tax and returns. That's a different product and a different price. Shopify, or a developer.

You need bookings or logins

Appointment systems, client portals, member areas. All perfectly reasonable things to want, none of them things we build.

You need a complex content platform

We can build the page structure a brochure website genuinely needs. If you need a large publishing operation, complex service hierarchies or custom workflows, hire an agency properly.

You want to build it yourself

Some people enjoy it and are good at it. If that's you, a builder will serve you better and cost less. Genuinely.

If any of those describe you, tell us anyway — we'll usually know someone worth recommending, and we'd rather be useful than just unavailable.

If that sounds right

Let's make your business a website worth having.

Tell us about what you do, review the brief and price, then your first monthly payment starts the design, writing and build.
