Garden design · Planting · Build

Gardens that look like they were always there.

We design and build gardens for houses in the south west, working with the soil, the slope and the light you already have rather than against them.

Our approach

Slow, and planted for year six

Most garden design is photographed the week it is finished, which is the one moment it will never look like again. We design for what a garden becomes: the year the hornbeam closes over, the year the grasses finally read as a drift rather than as forty separate plants.

That means fewer, larger beds. It means planting at proper densities and accepting a thin first summer. And it means telling you honestly when a plant you have asked for will be miserable in your soil, rather than selling it to you and returning in three years.

How a garden gets made

01

Walk it with you

Two hours on site talking about how you actually use the space, and what you have already tried that failed.

02

Survey & concept

Levels, drainage and soil tested properly, then a concept plan with two or three genuine alternatives.

03

Detailed drawings

Construction details and a full planting plan, priced so you can build it in phases if that suits better.

04

Build & establish

Our own team on site, then two years of seasonal visits while the planting settles in.

Through the year

What we would be doing, and when

WinterStructural planting, hard landscaping, and the surveys nobody wants to do in August.
SpringHerbaceous planting goes in. The busiest eight weeks of our year.
SummerDesign and drawing work, plus establishment visits to gardens planted last year.
AutumnBulbs, trees and hedging. The best time to plant almost everything.

Tell us about the space

Send a few photographs and roughly what you are hoping for. We will say honestly whether we are the right practice for it.
